At Chalmers, we’ve helped hundreds of people like you navigate the claims process. Half of the stress of a claim is in the unknown of what to expect. We invite you to get familiar with the steps below, so you can relax a little on the road to returning your home to normal.
Step 1: Stop Any Further Damage
If you’re in the middle of a catastrophe, the first thing you’ll want to do is try to stop any further damage. Make sure you, your family and pets are safe, and then do your best to stop any further damage. Be sure to save any receipts/invoices/pictures of initial damage you may acquire from the cleanup work so you can submit them later as part of the claim.
Step 2: Gather Information
Take detailed notes of what happened, what was damaged and if anyone was involved. Take multiple pictures from as many different angles as possible. If your home is burglarized, you'll also need to file a police report. The more detailed information you have, the easier the insurance claims process will be down the line.
Step 3: Call Your Insurance Agent
If you’re planning on filing a claim, contact us as soon as you are able to. We will gather the information you collected, ask you a few questions, and then get to work on filing the claim with your insurance carrier. Our Claims Specialists will help you determine how much of the damage is covered, what your deductible is, and whether you're better off paying for the damage out of pocket. (Yes, sometimes this can actually save you money in the long run.)
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. If our office is closed, and you need immediate claims service, please follow the prompts and leave us a message on our 24/7 support line. Our system is monitored and a claims specialist will return your call as soon as possible.
While we obviously hope you never have to file a claim, if you do, we recommend staying as calm as you can. We're here to help you every step of the way and promise to always advocate for prompt and fair resolution of your covered claims.
